This painting was born from a vision I had of a mother and child surrounded by angelica, an herb associated with female hormonal and reproductive health. Her hollow stem connects the earth realm to that of the angels and the stars. I had been sitting and praying with angelica regularly at the time that this vision came to me, with a rainbow halo surrounding the mother and child, and stars in the earth below them. To me those stars represent the babies that are swirling in the angelic realm before they are born to us. I had a friend pose for me with her beautiful baby. The expansive ocean horizon landscape setting is up at Salt Point on the California coast, where the angelica grows wild.
