From the south shore of Kauai, you can see the legendary island of Ni‘ihau, which is forbidden to anyone but native Hawaiians. I was captivated by Ni‘ihau, and I painted this ocean scene in the winter of 2016 when I gave myself a sabbatical season in a warm place where I could paint every day.
