I painted the landscape background of this portrait overlooking the lagoon and the ocean in Santa Barbara. The flowers in the foreground are Pride of Madeira echium, a plant I love which grow all up and down the California coast, though they are originally native to Portugal. The nude figure is one of my oldest friends, who was modeling for me at the College of Creative Studies in Santa Barbara. This was one of the last paintings I made the spring before graduating.
